In case you missed it earlier, the Yankees are sending RHP Domingo Acevedo, IF Thairo Estrada, OF Estevan Florial, RHP Jordan Foley, RHP Hobie Harris, IF Steven Sensley, and RHP Matt Wivinis to the Arizona Fall League this year. They’ll be on the Glendale Desert Dogs with Dodgers, Indians, Orioles, and White Sox prospects. The 30-game AzFL season begins Tuesday, October 9th.
Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (3-2 win over Syracuse, walk-off style)
- 2B-SS Tyler Wade: 1-3, 1 K, 1 E (fielding) — he was ejected in the sixth inning for arguing after being called out on a would-be infield single
- C Gary Sanchez: 0-4, 2 K — he is expected to join the Yankees tomorrow and be activated Saturday … he went 3-for-19 (.158) with two homers in five rehab games
- 3B-SS Gio Urshela: 2-4, 1 R, 1 3B — 13-for-35 (.371) in his last nine games
- DH Mike Ford: 0-4
- SS Abi Avelino: 0-0 — left the game in the second inning …
he’s been dealing with a nagging shoulder problem, so I assume it has something to do with leaving early… manager Bobby Mitchell told Conor Foley that the team was told to remove Avelino from the game, so something is afoot
- 1B Ryan McBroom: 2-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB — game-tying single in the ninth
- LHP Ryan Bollinger: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 7/3 GB/FB — 44 of 69 pitches were strikes (64%) … up here starting with LHP Justus Sheffield and RHP Chance Adams now in the bullpen
- LHP Justus Sheffield: 1 IP, zeroes, 2/1 GB/FB — 12 pitches, six strikes … first appearance since missing a few games with an illness
- LHP Stephen Tarpley: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 0/1 GB/FB — 12 of 20 pitches were strikes
Double-A Trenton Thunder (5-1 loss to Altoona)
- 1B Brandon Wagner: 3-4, 1 K — 10-for-17 (.588) in his last four games … he went from ice cold to red hot
- LF Trey Amburgey & DH Kyle Holder: 0-4
- 3B Gosuke Katoh: 1-3, 1 BB, 2 K
- RHP Brian Keller: 3 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 2 WP, 2/4 GB/FB — 49 of 78 pitches were strikes (63%) … finishes the regular season with a 3.74 ERA and 114/37 K/BB in 125 innings, all with Trenton … last season he had a 3.13 ERA with 157/28 K/BB in 144 innings in Single-A ball
High-A Tampa Tarpons Game One (3-1 win over Florida in seven innings)
- CF Estevan Florial: 0-4, 1 K, 2 SB — in a 3-for-29 (.103) skid
- DH Clint Frazier: 1-3 — he’d been out with post-concussion migraines and this is his first game action since July 19th … he played the full seven-inning game … Tampa’s season ends Sunday and I suppose the Yankees could bring him back to the big leagues after that, though I think he’ll join Trenton for the postseason to get more at-bats after a six-week layoff (he rehabbed an oblique injury with Trenton during the postseason last year)
- LF Dom Thompson-Williams: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 K — that’s his 21st homer of the season, tying IF Brandon Wagner for the farm system lead … he hit six homers in 120 games from 2016-17
- RF Isiah Gilliam: 0-2, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HB
- SS Diego Castillo: 1-1, 1 R, 1 BB
- RHP Domingo German: 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1/3 GB/FB — 31 of 40 pitches were strikes (78%) … he’s thrown three innings and 40-ish pitches in his last two rehab games following the biceps injury … this might’ve been his final minor league appearance before the Yankees bring him back as a September call-up … not much time left in the minor league season to stretch him all the way back out to start and I’m not sure it’s necessary either
- LHP Dalton Lehnen: 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 WP, 1 HB, 4/3 GB/FB — 38 of 61 pitches were strikes (62%) … last year’s sixth rounder finishes his first pro season with a 3.63 ERA and 103/53 K/BB in 116.2 innings between Charleston and Tampa
High-A Tampa Tarpons Game Two was rained out. The game was canceled and will not be made up.
Low-A Charleston RiverDogs (7-3 loss to Columbia)
- SS Oswaldo Cabrera: 0-3, 2 K
- 1B Dermis Garcia: 0-4 — only his second hitless game in his last 18 games
- RHP Alex Vizcaino: 4 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 2 HR, 1 HB, 5/4 GB/FB — 37 of 71 pitches were strikes (52%)
Short Season Staten Island Yankees (6-0 win over Vermont)
- 1B Chris Gittens: 1-3, 1 K — 2-for-10 in three rehab games following an unknown injury … surely he’ll be back with Trenton for the postseason
- C Josh Breaux: 1-3, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K, 2 PB — 22-for-68 (.324) with seven doubles and only ten strikeouts in his last 18 games
- LF Canaan Smith: 0-3, 1 R, 1 BB
- RHP Tanner Myatt: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1/2 GB/FB — 18 of 33 pitches were strikes (55%) … this year’s 11th rounder is up here after posting a 6.06 ERA and 20/7 K/BB in 16.1 innings in the GCL
- RHP Daniel Bies: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 4/4 GB/FB — 28 of 43 pitches were strikes (65%) … 43/7 K/BB in 30 innings for this year’s seventh rounder
