Two quick injury notes:
- SS Thairo Estrada hasn’t played since Tuesday and is a little banged up, according to Matt Kardos. It’s nothing serious and he is not on the disabled list. Estrada’s injury is why SS Gleyber Torres has played shortstop in every game but one up to this point. The Yankees plan to get Torres time at second and third bases this year, but they need Estrada to get back on the field first. He’s the only other natural shortstop on the roster.
- LHP Dietrich Enns has been placed on the Triple-A disabled list with a shoulder strain, reports Shane Hennigan. He’ll be shut down 3-4 weeks before starting a throwing program, so chances are we won’t see him again until midseason. Enns left last night’s start with shoulder discomfort. He’s on the 40-man roster and was a potential bullpen shuttle option.
Triple-A Scranton (10-3 loss to Buffalo)
- SS Tyler Wade: 0-4, 2 K
- LF Clint Frazier: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 BB — he has six hits this year: four doubles and two singles
- CF Dustin Fowler: 0-4
- 2B Rob Refsnyder: 2-4, 2 R, 2 2B, 1 E (throwing) — came into the game 3-for-22 (.136) with no extra-base hits
- RF Mason Williams: 0-3, 1 RBI, 3 K
- RHP Luis Cessa: 5.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 4/6 GB/FB — 57 of 88 pitches were strikes (65%) … the big league rotation is on a bit of a roll right now, but it’s only a matter of time until we see Cessa in the Bronx again
- RHP Gio Gallegos: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K — half of his 26 pitches were strikes
- RHP Ernesto Frieri: 1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 1/0 GB/FB — 18 of 32 pitches were strikes (56%) … at least he got this out of his system in a blowout game and not during a save situation
Double-A Trenton (4-2 loss to Portland)
- CF Rashad Crawford: 1-4, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 SB — 6-for-16 (.375) with three doubles, three walks, and three strikeouts in his last four games … I really hope he’s figuring it out, it would be cool as hell if the fourth piece in the Aroldis Chapman trade turned into something useful, even if he’s only a fourth outfielder
- SS Gleyber Torres: 1-5, 1 SB, 1 CS — he got thrown out trying to stretch the single into a double … he made a few baserunning gaffes in Spring Training too … just 20-year-old baseball player stuff, he’ll learn
- 3B Miguel Andujar: 2-4, 2 RBI — if you care about such things, he leads the Double-A Eastern League with 13 RBI in nine games
- LF Billy McKinney: 0-2, 2 BB
- LHP Daniel Camarena: 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 12/1 GB/FB — 56 of 83 pitches were strikes (67%) … you don’t see many no walk, no strikeout games these days
- RHP J.P. Feyereisen: 1.1 IP, zeroes, 3/0 GB/FB — ten pitches, six strikes
High-A Tampa (3-2 win over Bradenton)
- SS Jorge Mateo: 2-4, 2 R, 1 3B, 1 K — 12-for-27 (.444) during his seven-game hit streak
- 3B Abi Avelino: 2-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 SB, 1 E (throwing)
- CF Trey Amburgey: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — two homers in ten games this year … he hit two homers in 68 total games last year
- 2B Nick Solak & RF Jhalan Jackson: both 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K — Jackson got picked off first
- RHP Zack Littell: 7 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 8/4 GB/FB — 60 of 82 pitches were strikes (73%) … he’s not a future ace, bit Littell has three pitches and he knows what he’s doing on the mound, and there’s no such thing as too many cheap back-end starter options … the Yankees got him from the Mariners in the James Pazos trade
Low-A Charleston (4-2 win over Rome)
- SS Diego Castillo: 2-4, 1 BB, 1 SB — Ben Badler praised him earlier today
- 3B Oswaldo Cabrera: 0-5, 2 K — Badler praised him too (same link)
- CF Blake Rutherford: 1-5, 2 K
- 2B Angel Aguilar: 1-4, 1 R
- C Donny Sands: 1-4
- RF Estevan Florial: 3-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 SB — only thing he needed to do was throw a runner out for all the tools to be on display … what a game
- 1B Isiah Gilliam: 0-4, 2 K
- LF Leonardo Molina: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 K, 1 CS
- RHP Brian Keller: 5.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 8/3 GB/FB — 58 of 86 pitches were strikes (67%)
