The Yankees are traveling down to Fort Myers to play the Red Sox tonight. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm ET and the regular game thread will be along a little closer to game time. Until then, here are the day’s notes from Spring Training:
- Following last night’s spring debut, Masahiro Tanaka said he feels better today than he did the day after starts last year. That’s encouraging, though I’m guessing throwing only two innings and 19 pitches has a little something to do with it. Pitching coach Larry Rothschild said Tanaka will likely make his next start on Wednesday. [Ryan Hatch]
- CC Sabathia will make his Grapefruit League debut on Tuesday. With him going Tuesday and Tanaka going Wednesday, Sabathia remains lined up to start Opening Day, if you’re worried about such things. [Mark Feinsand]
- Didi Gregorius has a big bruise on his leg after taking a pitch to the right hamstring last night, but otherwise he’s fine. He went through a full workout today. Brendan Ryan (mid-back sprain) is on a running program and has started taking dry swings. [Mark Didtler, Hatch]
- Nathan Eovaldi and Bryan Mitchell are the notables who threw bullpen sessions this afternoon. All the position players took batting practice today, even the ones set to play tonight. [Hatch]
- And finally, Joe Girardi said the first round of roster cuts could come Sunday. [Hatch]
